What happened yesterday at BMO Field against the Philadelphia Union wasn’t just a soccer match; it was a true test of nerves for the fans. In a thrilling encounter that ended in a 3-3 draw, Toronto FC proved once again that while they struggle to clinicaly close games, they possess an undeniable survival instinct.
After trailing by two goals, the Reds managed to fight back with strikes from Josh Sargent and Kobe Franklin. However, the real drama unfolded at the very end: Philadelphia scored the 3-2 in the 89th minute, and it looked like the home unbeaten streak was heading for a tragic end.
The Man of the Match: Luka Gavran
The undisputed star was goalkeeper Luka Gavran. Not only did he keep the team alive with crucial saves throughout the 90 minutes, but he pulled off the impossible: in the 96th minute, on the final play of the game, he went up for a corner kick and scored a header to seal the draw. A goal-scoring goalkeeper saving the day at the last breath!
The Team of “The Struggle
It has become a recurring theme: Toronto has now drawn three consecutive home games, and they always do it in the final minutes. The team seems to enjoy making their fans suffer until the very last second; they don’t seem to know how to play without the drama of the clock ticking against them. At least they managed to snatch a point thanks to Gavran’s heroics, but hopefully, the three points will come soon for Toronto, because the supporters can’t take many more of these heart-attack finishes.
